“And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. And God saw that the light was good...” Genesis 1:3

In 1999 after much prayer and hearing the call of the Lord, Duane and Leslie Ficker and their six children moved to San Andres Sajcabaja, Guatemala. They went to partner with an orphanage in that town, but at the end of the first year, the Lord starting opening doors in the neighboring town to begin a ministry as medical missionaries. And so, in 2001, Adonai International Ministries was formed as an official 501C3. Little did they know what the Lord had in mind. This was the mere beginning of what is now in existence.

With the Lord's guidance Leslie, as a trained nurse, opened up a few clinics in surrounding villages. The Lord made a way, and by His grace, there are still three weekly clinics where people come in for medical aid. Duane and his boys noticed the need for agricultural help and right away began cultivating fields with tractors. Since then, many other projects have found their way into the general ministry workings. In 2006, Adonai was further blessed with two airplanes, and Duane resumed his gift and dream of flying. These have been an incredible gift from God and have been used for transportation and many emergency medical flights.

More important than any of the work done or accomplished is the work the Lord does in them and through them as they simply take each day at a time loving Him, sharing his love, and being light and salt to the people they serve.

“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.” Psalm 145:8
