We live in a remote mountainous village along with an almost completely indigenous population. The Quiche Indians live much the same as their Mayan ancestors did thousands of years ago. The illiteracy rate is close to 90%. Their diet consists almost entirely of corn and a few beans. The malnutrition rate is very high and children die of starvation on a regular basis.
